The UK’s sunniest place is calling for the local community to get behind the 2012 Games and bring the celebrations to Eastbourne by becoming a Local Leader.

LOCOG is encouraging individuals to sign up to become a Local Leader and access a wide range of resources and ideas so they can bring the celebrations to doorsteps around the country.

From Gardening for the Games by planting golden flowers or a bee-friendly wild flower meadow inspired by the one in the Olympic Park to organising your own sports quiz, the Local Leader website is packed full of tools to help the Eastbourne community plan their own celebrations to remember.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure Cllr Neil Stanley said “The Local Leader website is a fantastic resource to help our local community realise the many ways they can get involved in the 2012 Games and make the most of the occasion in Eastbourne. We are already very excited to be welcoming the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay to Eastbourne as well as hosting a Community Live Site during the Games period and the Local Leader scheme offers further opportunities for as many people as possible to get behind this wonderful occasion.”

The London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay is coming to Eastbourne on Tuesday 17 July and Eastbourne’s Events team will be working with local schools and organisations to celebrate the Olympic Flame as it arrives in Eastbourne.

Residents and visitors will also have the chance to experience the Olympic atmosphere in Eastbourne with a Community Live Site at Princes Park, which will operate during the Games period, from 27 July – 12 August. Highlights from the Games will be broadcast on a huge screen, including the Opening Ceremony on Friday 27 July.

With the Local Leader website offering further resources to make the most of the Games, such as bunting templates, Save the Date cards, and ideas for Mums, Dads and teachers during the summer holidays, Eastbourne is preparing to celebrate in style.
