The Crucible

The Crucible by Arthur Miller
Lord Jesus, think on me and purge away my sin.
from earth-born passions set me free
and make me pure within
The Year is 1692…

The people of Salem, Massachusetts, are caught in the grip of madness. A group of young girls, bored by the restrictions imposed on them by Church and state, are caught dancing in the woods late at night.

To escape their punishment, they invent a story of charms, potions and evil spirits. More and more people come forward with tales of witchcraft and unexplained tragedy. Fingers are pointed at the old, the unwanted, the homeless…

Until, in the midst of the madness, one girl decides she wants revenge.
Revenge on the community that will not listen to her. Revenge on anyone who dares to hurt her. Revenge on the man who loved her, then rejected her. Revenge on his wife - for being his wife.

The Synergy Theatre is proud to present Arthur Miller’s searing tale of mass hysteria, widely recognised as an allegory of the McCarthy Era.
