Following a public consultation and series of exhibitions held in the Autumn last year, West Sussex County Council is now asking for formal comments on revised proposals to introduce a new Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) in parts of East Grinstead. The proposals also include some changes to roads within the existing scheme.
A CPZ is an area of streets where parking is controlled through the day. Residents, local businesses and their visitors are given priority to park by purchasing permits or vouchers. This can also improve road safety, reduce congestion and prevent obstructions to private driveways by removing indiscriminate parking.
Pieter Montyn, West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: “After listening to the comments received during the consultation period we believe these proposals will help to improve parking arrangements in the town.
“The aim is to reduce congestion and access difficulties and free the roads up from all-day parking by commuters and shoppers to improve traffic flow.”
Notices have been put up in each of the affected roads. Plans of the proposals are available to view at East Grinstead Library, East Grinstead Town Council and Mid Sussex District Council. People can also see them on the County Council website – www.westsussex.gov.uk
The closing date for comments on the proposals is 16 February 2012.
